Our tech then replaced a few pads that needed it, and made several adjustments to make sure everything was sealing properly.
They started out with a full disassembly and cleaning, with the body going into our ultrasonic tank and the keys getting a hand-polish.

While the similarity in sound between the earliest clarinets and the trumpet may hold a clue to its name, other factors may have been involved. The best bass mouthpiece I've ever heard is a Nova that Clark customized extensively for a friend. The clarinet is a family of woodwind instruments. It has a single-reed mouthpiece, a straight, cylindrical tube with an almost cylindrical bore, and a flared bell.A person who plays a clarinet is called a clarinetist (sometimes spelled clarinettist). (source: I've known Clark on a professional and personal basis for about ten years) In the end, it takes more time to get a good mouthpiece, but it's worth it because the piece winds up having much more hands-on time with Fobes and co., and the material is much better to begin with. The reason they have to spend more time on the Nova is because, while the material is much better, the compression molding process used to make the blanks is slightly less accurate - injection molding doesn't work well with hard rubber. Art& Artifacts Vintage Bundy Selmer Resonite Tenor Bass Soprano Clarinet In Carrying Case used. The Nova is better for a rather ironic reason - it's harder to build. The thing is, there aren't really major design differences between the Debut and the Nova. spend MUCH more time on the Nova mouthpieces than they do on the Debut. People REALLY care if their hand-crafted custom Fobes mouthpiece breaks, you know? But that said, it's also true that the B50 has recently gained a good deal of attention from professional orchestra players, so it's certainly worth a shot - at ~$150, it's worth a shot anyway.Īs for the Fobes mouthpieces, the Nova will always be a much better mouthpiece than the Debut, for two reasons: it's a better material (Nova is hard rubber, Debut is acrylic), and Fobes and co. They're easy to replace if something goes wrong - nobody cares if a Vandoren breaks. It is by far the best of the Vandoren bass mouthpieces.
I'd take the B45 back and go with Distort_'s recommendation and try a Vandoren B50. I own all three of these mouthpieces as well as few others.
